    Michael feels like defying Kensuke as he won’t let him light a fire, go to certain areas on the island or even swim.

    The anger can help Michael escape as he no longer wants to be with Kensuke even though he is feeding him and keeping him alive.

    The tension builds up throughout this chapter during when Michael sees the boat, he starts running but Kensuke stops him from lighting the fire which made Michael want to escape until he got stung by a jellyfish.

    He describes missing home like he has not been there for hundreds of years, he says that he just wants to go home but Kensuke won’t let him.

    This chapter shows that time goes a little faster than normal as after Kensuke broke his fire glass and went away Michael quickly went and broke all of Kensuke’s rules on his island.
