Comparing Numbers in 4 White

Today in Maths we were comparing 4-digit numbers. The children used prior knowledge of place value and comparison signs to find answers. They worked in groups to find the largest and smallest 4-digit number using digit cards from 0-9. They could only use each digit once. To make the statement correct, the children made human comparison signs as a whole group.

    Tiny is thinking of the number 4,440. This is because if it’s more then 4,200 and less then 5,800 Tiny would have the number 4,440. This is because it’s less then 5,800 and more then 4,200. Another number Tiny could be thinking is 5,600. I know this because 5,600 is the amount which Tiny would be thinking of. This is because it’s 200 less then 5,800 and it’s more then 4,200. Tiny could also be thinking of the number 4,500. I know this because the number 4,500 is 300 more then 4,200 and it’s 500 less then 5,800. The last number I think Tiny is thinking is 5,550. This is because it’s less then 5,800 and more then 4,200.
