East European Music

Bulgarian Folk Singing

The scales used throughout Eastern Europe can have more in than our usual 12 (in Western Music). These extra notes in the scale can make the sounds exotic sounding or even out of tune. Some of the sounds may even tickle your ears.

Eastern Europe, as defined by the United Nations Statistics Division, includes the countries of Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Russian Federation, and Slovakia, as well as the republics of Belarus, Moldova, and Ukraine.

Listen to how the Rhythms do not just follow a 4 or 3 beats in a bar, the MENSURATION can be different and changes often.
