Should people be allowed to have 2 jobs?

There is alot of discussion about MPs and whether  they should  be doing 2 jobs. What are your thoughts about  people having 2 jobs? (Many people do…should we have freedom of choice or should the importance of a role dictate whether you can?)

I think they should have 1 job because they don’t have to busy and they can rest.

If they want one or two jobs they could have it because it is there choice if they want 1 or 2 jobs.

No parents should have 1 job

I think that some MP’s shouldn’t have two jobs because it would be a lot harder and they have two responsibilities to do and that would cause them to be tired and maybe work less harder.

We discussed the controversy around MPs second jobs. We discussed how some people need 2 jobs to make sure they have enough money for themselves and their families and it is lovely that they are helping the community through their jobs.
However, we discussed that MPs are generally well paid. We discussed how having another job might influence or effect how the MPs present certain issues to parliament. They might speak more in favour of their other job. We also discussed how MPs have a very busy job and that they need the time to focus on representing us, the people.

3 White have discussed that if a person is happy to and is willing to work more than one job they should be allowed. It should not matter about how much they are getting paid, all that matters is that they do a good job and they are happy while they do it. If wouldn’t be right if someone had 2 jobs and did them badly that would mean they need to focus on doing one thing well. Some people need 2 jobs to be able to live and this should be allowed as it shows they are hard working in life. It is all about the positive contribution people make.

This was very interesting to discuss as a class as 3 Red have mixed views about this topic. Some children such as Myiesha believe you should only have one job so you focus your entire energy on it. Rehyan and Amina believe you might get too tired if you had two jobs and then you wouldn’t have anytime to do fun things with your family.
However, Anish said people should be able to have two jobs because it’s their choice and they might need the money. Anish said if they are too tired they can just drink coffee!

3 Blue have discussed the impact of people having 2 jobs. We think that people should be allowed to have 2 jobs to provide for themselves and their families. This is their own personal choice. However if the second job has an impact on their main job (conflict of interest) then they should not being doing it.
MPs are powerful people and it may be difficult for them to separate both their jobs. Therefore we think MPs and others in such jobs where they are able to influence others should not have 2 jobs as they may knowingly or unknowingly be unfair.

In my humble opinion, yes because if someone has expertise in certain field and he can do justice, he would be more beneficial for the society and contribute towards the growth of the community or even for a country.

I think that if someone chooses to have 2 jobs than I think that’s fair but if it was forced I don’t think that would be fair

I think MPs shouldn’t have 2 jobs because they will be a hypocrite(2 faced)

I think the MP shouldn’t have two jobs as they will have twice the responsibilities to do around the UK.
