this is me Week in 5 Red.

Welcome 5 Red! We have had an exciting first week back with ‘This is me’ as our project week. Year Five’s theme was the CIRCUS! Full of colour, joy and excitement. We have lots of activities to share. We hope you enjoy our fun and positive learning this week. Take a look below, enjoy!

Day 1- Firstly, we started off by talking about the schools rules and expectations in Year 5. We then discussed our class mantra ‘Education is the passport to the future’ and what it stands for. Following on from this, we created our own mantra in groups. Next, we used our growth mindset to unpick our school prospectus and curriculum. Lastly, we researched what a circus was and then presented our findings on an iMovie and posters.

Day 2- We started off day 2 looking at Science and the forces in relation to balance and friction. The big question was, ‘How do items move and not fall?’ We looked at plate spinning and how they move and fall. We learnt what balance was and demonstrated with our rulers. We then went onto learn about friction. In the afternoon we looked at Pablo Fanque, who was a circus owner. We became Pablo Fanque and wrote a diary entry. We then designed our plates and took them out side to spin. Take a look at our iMovie below.

Day 3- Today we started off by creating a piece of poetry inspired by the circus. We then went on to maths and learnt about different strategies to support our progress. After break, we created a monochromatic self portrait. Following on from this, we used the 12 school values to create a collage, using magazines with different colours to create it.

Day 4- We continued with our collages, which had the BH 12 values on them. We took lots of pride in designing these and they will be displayed in class. We then had a growth mindset lesson and this gave us an insight to how intelligence can be fixed if you work on it with a positive attitude. After this, we used our maths skills to solve a Pascal triangle, this was tricky at first but with a positive mindset we were able to try our best. To end our day we created an animation, story board inspired by the Beatles. We also got to have tip tops outside as a treat!
