Year 2 Maths Challenge Autumn 1 2022

Choose a challenge and write your answer on the blog. Remember to write which challenge you are completing e.g. Bronze.

    Bronze: Khadija says this number could be 40 because it has four tens.

    Silver: jessica has the largest number because she have two tens and 9 ones (10+10+9=29). This is bigger than 27 ones which khadija has said is 27.

    Gold: yes habib is right because we are not changing the ones, just the tens.

    Platium: 10+10+10+10+10+10+10=70 which is 7 lots of 10. Khadija added 32 to 70 and ended up with 102p. Since there are 100 pennies in a pound, isla is right. she has more than a pound.

    It could be 40, 44, 47 or 49 because they all have 4 tens.

    It can’t be 30, 50, 10 because they are all tens but not 4 tens.

    Silver:
    Jessica had the most because she has 29 ones and faith only had 27 ones.

    Gold:
    Yes habib is right because the ones only change when you add ones but if you only add tens it stays the same.

    Platinum:
    Yes she is correct because she has 102p now and that is £1.02.

    40+7=47
    20+4=24
    44+10=54

    27+29=56
    Because there are 2 tens in each number we add those first to make 40.We then add 9+7=16 and then we add the two numbers to make 56.

    When you add tens to any number the ones always stay the same:
    26+10=36
    110+10=120
    39+10=49
    when these numbers are added to ten then the ones column stays the same.

    Jassica has the largest number because she has two tens and nine ones so the whole number will become 29, whereas Faith had 27 which is two less then 29.
    Therefore 29 is bigger then 27.

    Habib is correct because if you keep adding the number to 13 the ones stays the same. Examples:
    8+10=18
    5+ 10=15

    Or it could be: 44 because that has 4 10’s plus 2 1’s: 10 +10+10+10 + 1 + 1 +1+1 = 44

    Or it could be 46 because that has 4 10’s and 7 ones 10+10+10+10+1+1+1+1+1+1+1= 47

    The number can’t be 50 because that has 5 10’s = 10+10+10+10+10

    Or it can’t be 56 because that 5 10’s and 6 1’s = 10+10+10+10+10+1+1+1 +1+1+1= 56

    Or it can’t be 61 because that has 8 10’s and a two 1’s 10+10+10+10+10+10+10+10+10+1+1 = 82

    Silver:

    Jessica has the highest number because the total of her number is 29 because she has two 10’s and 9 1’s – 10+10+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1 = 29

    Faith only has 27 because she has 27 1’s.

    Gold:

    Yes Habib is right. For example

    29+10 = 39 in this example 9 is in the one column which stays the same

    15+10 = 25 in this example 5 is in the one column which stays the same.

    Yes – 7 lots of 10p is 70p – add this to the 37p she already has equals 107p. As 100p equal £1, 107p is more than £1
