Year 2 Reading Challenge Spring 1 2022

This half term, in our History lessons, we are learning about significant individuals (famous people). One very significant individual in our country is Queen Elizabeth II. Read the text below and complete one or more of the challenges set.

BRONZE

Tell me 5 new things you’ve learnt about the Queen.

SILVER

Use a dictionary to find the meaning of these words: significant, wreath, telegram, coronation

GOLD

Why do you think the Queen sends a telegram to people who are 100 years old?

PLATINUM

Choose another member of the Royal family. Research them and tell me 5 facts about them. You could choose Prince William, Prince Harry, Prince Charles or even little Princess Charlotte.

    Reading bronze challenge

    I have learnt the Queen has 2 birthdays.
    The Queen has 9 thrones altogether.
    I learnt the Queen has lots of different jobs (roles).
    Queen Elizabeth II is the longest serving Queen.
    She is the only Queen to reach 90 years old as Queen.

      Prince Harry:
      1) Prince Harry was born on 15 September 1984 at st Mary’s Hospital.
      2) He was christened on 21 December 1984 at st George’s Chaple.
      3) He is the second son of Charles the prince of Wales and Diana.
      4) Although he is known as Harry, his full name is Henry Charles Albert David of Wales.
      5) His first overseas trip was to Italy with his parents in May.
