Year 3 Reading Challenge Autumn 1 2023

Here are the first few pages of an adventure story called Oliver and The Seawigs. Read the story carefully, then try these challenges.

BRONZE

Write a list of 5 adjectives you can find in the story. Then write your own sentences using those adjectives.

SILVER

Answer these retrieval questions in full sentences:

  1. How did Oliver feel about his parents giving up exploring?
  2. Where was his new school?
  3. What would he have in his new house that he hadn’t had before?

  1. Why might Oliver have felt excited to start at a normal school?
  2. Why might Oliver’s parents have wanted to travel?
  3. How might Oliver’s parents have felt when they realised there was no where else to explore?

    Sadly Deep young tired hardly
    The boy sadly said, ” i hurt my knee ! ”
    The young girl could not swim because the water was deep for here. The fog was so bad that I could hardly see through it.
    I went to sleep at 12 o’clock and I ended up sleepwalking

    Oliver parents were sad.
    He’d never even had a proper bedroom of his own, just a bunk in the back of the explorermobile, and all his things were hidden away in trunks and storage boxes in
    the spaces under the exploremobile’seats.

    Busy – I am busy on the weekend visiting my Grandparents.
    Little – When I was little, I always liked to smile a lot.
    Proper – I tidy up my toys and put them in its proper place.
    Great – I had a great time at the safari park.
