4 Red practical Maths lesson.

4 Red have been using games and manipulatives to display their multiplication knowledge in class. We focused on our times table recall with a game of splat. We then moved onto displaying our mathematical understanding with a series of minipulatives.

Can you answer the following questions?

1. (5×4)x5=

2. What is the purpose of the brackets?

3. 9x260x0= Why don’t we have to solve 9×260?

    1. (5×4)x5=100
    2. What is the purpose of the brackets?
The purpose of the brackets is to show what part of the question needs to be solved first.
    3. 9x260x0= 0
Why don’t we have to solve 9×260?
We don’t have to solve 9×260 because you multiply it by zero and when you multiply by 0 it gets multiplied by nothing. This means that the answer would be 0.

(5×4)x5=100.I know this because 5×4 is 20.20×5 is 100 because 2×5 is ten and if you add a zero it will be 100.
The purpose of the brackets are to break the the number in half.
You don’t need to work out 9×260 because anything you multiply by 0 will equal zero. This is because zero does not have a value.zero is worth nothing.

  3. Simra S.

    1.(5*4)*5=20*5=100
2.The purpose of the bracket is to break the number into pieces inorder to multiply the number easily.
3.We dont have to solve 9*260 because anything multiply by 0 is 0 itself .

  4. Manha S.

    (4*5)*4=80
The purpose of this brackets is to break them in pieces.
We dont have to slove because any thing multiply by 0 is 0 it self

    1. Manha S.

      (5*4)*5 = 100
the purpose of this bracets is to brake them in half
we dont have to slove because any thing multiply by 0 is 0 itself

  5. Alima S.

    5 x 4 = 20 x 5 = 100
The purpose of the brackets is to brake the answer into pieces.
We do not have to solve 9 x 260 because it also x by 0 which equals 0.
