5W Explore Symmetry

Year 5 have used paint to explore symmetry of regular and irregular shapes. They drew half a shape and their partner drew the other half that had been reflected on a line of symmetry. They then painted one side and printed it to check their work. Finally, they made posters showing their new learning.

What is symmetry?
How many lines of symmetry does a circle have?

    1. Symmetry is when you split a shape in half, and it will be equivalent on both sides.
    2. A circle as endless lines of symmetry, as it is round, and doesn’t have straight lines.

    1. Symmetry is a 2D shape that has 2 (or more) halves in a shape that is reflected on each of sides. We can check this by getting a 2D shape an drawing a line down the middle and seeing if it is reflected on each sides and when put together it makes a full 2D shape.
    2. A circle has endless lines of symmetry there can be as many lines of symmetry that is found in a circle.

    What is symmetry?
Symmetry is when a shape or object can be split into two parts and, when put side by side, are directly equal.
How many lines of symmetry does a circle have?
A circle has infinite lines of symmetry.

Something is symmetrical when it is the same on both sides.

A circle has infinite ♾️ lines of symmetry..
