Year 6 Extracting DNA

This half term we started our science unit exploring the term ‘inheritance‘.

We then explored our own inherited characteristics VS acquired characteristics. We chose characters from Mr Men and Miss little and drew an example of how their children could look, inheriting characteristics from both parents.

We learnt some super scientific vocabulary to further develop our learning such as nucleus/ DNA and chromosomes (chrom o somes)

    1) The things I have inherited from my parents are my skin colour , eye colour, hair and the shape of my face
    2)When you are inherited characteristics that means you have got them from you parents but when you have acquired characteristics that means you have been taught for example; when you talk or walk.
    3) DNA is located in your nucleus and it carries genetic information ( precise information). The DNA was so fun to do you needed to take time and have concentration thank you for letting us do this science experiment.

    I have inherited the eye colour from both of my parents. The difference between the two is that acquired characteristics is what you have been taught.
    DNA is located in your chromosomes.
