Subtraction using number tiles (practical) 1 Blue

Today, we have been using number tiles to subtract.

How did we do this?

First, we made our own number line using number tiles.

Next, we found the biggest whole number and put this first in our calculation. We then put our minus symbol, followed by the smallest number. For example, 7 – 2

Then we had to stand on the number given eg 7, then do 2 jumps backwards.

Finally, the number we landed on was the answer 7 – 2 = 5

Have a go at solving the number sentences below please. Remember, we are subtracting so our answer will be smaller than our biggest number.
