This week at Broad Heath we have celebrated Deaf Awreness week.
This year the theme is deaf inclusion. This year’s theme highlights how hearing loss impacts daily life and how others can help support deaf people. Being deaf brings unique challenges that not everyone will experience.

What have you learnt?
Year 1
Year 1 children learnt how to say their name and letters of the alphabet using sign language.
Year 2
The Year 2 children incorporated Deaf awareness with the themed Blitz day. They pretended to be deafened by a bomb from the Blitz and tried to work out what our partners are saying using lip reading.
Year 3
Year 3 children used non verbal communication and played a game of charades.
Year 4
The Year 4 children looked at what British Sign Language (BSL) is and practise signing some key words and letters.
Year 5
In Year 5, the children learnt top tips to support a deaf friend and created posters. They played games involving missing information, lip reading and working out the meaning of sign language using the letters of the alphabet.
Year 6
Year 6 have looked at the barriers that deaf people may face in society, the importance of an awareness week and how we can help communicate well with those that are deaf. They have also researched different famous people who are/were deaf and created posters and I movies.
