Today we were very privileged to have Misa visit our class to talk to us about Japanese school and culture.
Japanese clothing
The traditional Japanese clothing is called a Kimono. This is a long robe which is tied around the waist with ribbons. The ladies have bows on the back whereas the men just have a knot.
Japanese Food
We talked about different Japanese food specifically sushi. There are many different types of sushi such as salmon, tuna, octopus,squid,shrimp,eel and shell fish. The Japanese also eat a lot of different types of noodles, udon and ramen noodles which is yellow and originated in China.
Japanese school
Children will attend school from the age of 6. All public schools are free for children but there are other private school which you can pay to attend.
When the children enter the school the first thing they must do is change their footwear to their indoor shoes.
There are usually between 30 and 40 pupils in each class and lessons last on average 45 minutes.
The children study a variety of lessons such as : maths, science , physical education, computing, art and social skills. Music takes place in a different classroom where the children learn to play instruments and sing.
The school runs a number of different clubs where children can choose and learn.
Every day the children take responsibility for the cleanliness of the classroom. They all contribute to keeping the school clean.
The hydrangea, snail and frog symbolise the rainy season in Japan..
Origami
Origani is the Japanese art of paper folding. We followed a tutorial the make crane. The crane symbolises longevity.
What are the similarities and differences in school between our school day and a school in Japan?
