Phew! What a wild journey we have been on this week! We have explored four ancient civilisation, thought about the impact they have had on modern mathematics, and even practiced some of the skills and methods that they came up with thousands of years ago!
On Thursday, we travelled to India and learned about Brahmagupta, who discovered 0 and worked on developing maths using negative numbers. We had a day all about numbers, using our place value knowledge, solving a sudoku scavenger hunt around school, building our own paper Dienes, and making board games to test the skills of our friends.
Then we finished our Crystal Maze challenge with a trip to ancient China. We learned how to use the Chinese stick method for multiplication, just like Wu Jing did many hundreds of years ago! We practiced our times table skills and later, we used our knowledge to complete colour by numbers activities.
Well done to all of you for working so hard! Special congratulations to Group 3, who were our winners for the week with 17 crystals in total. As you can see, it was very close!
What is the most interesting thing you have learned or done this week?
Which ancient civilisation would you like to learn more about?
Are there any new skills we have practiced that you are going to continue to use in your learning?
