This half term’s challenges are based on number and place value.

    Silver 29 because it is more and 27 is less .
    Gold it is true that the ones stay the same because ones go like this 12345 and tens go like this 10 20 30 40 50 .

    Jessica has the largest number because two tens and 9 ones equal to 29. Faith has 27 ones which is 2 less than Jessica’s number.

    Gold:

    Habib is correct. I know this because if you add 10 to the number 5, the total would clearly be 15. As you can see the units/ones is not affected, in this case 5.

    Platinum:

    Isla is right. I know this as 7 lots of 10p equals 70p, add that to 32p the total is £1.02

    Habib is right, because the place values of tens are higher than ones. ten is made up from 10 x 1. When ones become into tens, the number goes into the place unit of tens.
    Example
    1-9 is smaller than 10. These numbers only have a place unit of one number and 10’s have 2 numbers.

    Isla has 32p , she gets 7 lots of 10p, so we find out how much she has altogether
    7 lots of 10p= 7 X 10p = 70p
    So 32p + 70p = 102p
    In £1 there is 100p but Isla has 102p so she has more than £1

    4+30= 34, 50+5= 55, 90+7= 97, 70+3= 73.

    Faith has 2 tens and 7 ones.

    Alex could have 41, 49 or 47, he could not use the numbers 32, 100 or 96.
    This is because he only has four tens so can use any number between 40 and 49. Alex can not use the numbers 32, 100 and 96 because they do not have four tens 32 has 3 tens, 100 has 10 tens, and 96 has 9 tens.
