Year 3 Autumn 2 Reading Challenge

We have been looking at information texts this half term. Can you complete the challenge based on this non-chronological report?

Read this non-chronological text and then complete the challenges.

Bronze:

Give an example of a desert plant.
What do all plants need to live and grow?
How long can the roots of a bromeliad grow?

Silver:

Write 3 sentences about desert plants using subordinating conjunctions.

Gold:

Improve one of the sections by adding more adjectives, adverbs and conjunctions.

Platinum:

Make a poster showing the information you have learnt from this text. Summarise your learning.

    Bronze
    Cacti are the common plants found in deserts. Cactus is different from the rest of the plants.
    All plants need water ,sunlight and soil to grow.
    The bromeliad roots can grow up to 18 metres long.
    Silver
    A cactus does not have leaves like other plants do while cactus has sharp spines or thorns .
    A cactus is a plant that like to grow where the soil is dry and rocky
    Cactus stores water in its leaves, roots and stems even if does not rain for long it has enough water to grow .

    1. The desert plant are so spikey some are different.
    2. But the desert have lots of sand that is why some plants and animal live In the.
    Desert. some people go there to have a look for so spikey plants and animal.
    3. Some flower grow there and die again because they just can not stay on
    That too hotness.
    4.They should live in a save sun and rain. But they need to be at some
    Forest.
    5.The bromeliad of the root should stay there for a couple of day.

    The desert is so hot that is why some of us do not do there you will feel
    like you are melting.
    2. Africa is a country that is hot too but very poor.
    3. If you have been to Africa and Egypt they have sand too just like Desert .

    Plants need water, sunlight and soil.
    How long can the roots of a bromeliad grow?
    It can grow up to 18 meters long

    Silver:

    Cacti is a desert plant, it survives on very little water.
    Snowbusters can save energy, it can take the whole year to grow tiny leaves.
    Cacti have spines rather than leaves, it helps them to survive.
