Select the challenges you want to attempt below:

Bronze:

Silver:

Gold:

During Autumn 1, we have been learning about recounts and making them as effective as we can. You will need to carry out some research into the moon landing and then write a recount.

Write a catchy headline and an introductory paragraph (using the five W’s: Who, What, Where, When, Why)

Platinum:

Write a newspaper report using journalistic language and include at least one quote from the time. (You will need to do some research).

    One Giant Leap Mankind:

On July 20, 1969, NASA Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the Moon in the lunar module Eagle. Experts say initial exchange involving the Astronauts was a procedural checklist.
The Eagle landed in the sea of Tranquillity in site 2 at 0 degree,41 minutes, 15 seconds north latitude and 23 degrees, 26 minutes east longitude.
Neil speaks the words to more than a billion people listening at home, “That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind” stepping off the lunarmodule Eagle.

Recently, Neil Armstrong aswell as Buzz Aldrin have landed on the moon. Millions of people are extremely excited for their country. This happened on July 20th 1969. They took part in the space race so they can go against Russia.

Neil Armstrong was a NASA astronaut and aeronautical engineer. He famously became the first person to walk on the moon on July 20, 1969 during Apollo 11. Armstrong also flew on NASA’s Gemini 8 mission in 1966. Armstrong was born in Wapakoneta, Ohio, on Aug. 5, 1930, to Stephen Koenig Armstrong and Viola Louise Engel.
He retired from NASA in 1971 and remained active in the aerospace community, although he chose to keep mostly out of the public spotlight. Armstrong died Aug. 25, 2012, at age 82.

As the lander approached the moon, Armstrong took over the controls when he saw that the computer was guiding them to a boulder-filled landing zone. Armstrong and Aldrin landed on the moon, with only 25 seconds of fuel left. Armstrong radioed, “The Eagle has landed.”

After his time as an astronaut, Armstrong was deputy associate administrator for aeronautics at NASA headquarters. He resigned from NASA in 1971. From 1971 to 1979, he was a professor of aerospace engineering at the University of Cincinnati. Then from 1982 to 1992, Armstrong was chairman of Computing Technologies for Aviation Inc. in Charlottesville, Virginia.

These are the first words when Neil Armstrong ” A small step for a man and a giant leapt for mankind .”

On Aug. 11, 2021, NASA dedicated the Ohio test facility to Neil Armstrong. Armstrong had graciously declined the honor when he was originally asked, but on Wednesday (Aug. 11), nine years after Armstrong died and a week after what would have been his 91st birthday, a group of NASA officials and members of Congress gathered at a small dedication ceremony in Sandusky, Ohio. NASA’s Plum Brook Station is now known as The Neil A. Armstrong Test Facility.

16th of July 1969 is when Apollo 11 officially starts.
4 days later on the 20th of July he was the first person to ever be on the moon.

The people who went with Neil was Edwin(Buzz) and Michael Collins .
NASA was unsure about the space suits because no one has ever been and tested them before and they might have been scared that they wouldn’t survive in them.
I think 600 million people watched the Space Race because it was a part of History and never done before.
In my opinion riding the spaceship was the most dangerous part because a crash might’ve of happend with one of the planets and the spaceship ,and an asteroid might hit it and cause the ship to burn.
