Year 5 Blue Science – How does a foetus develop?

In Science this half term, the children in year 5 are life explorers. As part of our learning, today we explored the big question – how does a foetus develop?

As part of our learning, the children learned about the size of a foetus at different stages of pregnancy, comparing this to the size of fruits. The children then learned how the foetus develops month by month, including organ development, the development of senses, and when hair and skin is formed. We also thought about the importance of keeping healthy in pregnancy, and how this is supported using NHS guidance.

The children were asked to produce a detailed scientific diagram of the process of foetal development. Take a look at our gallery below!

We would love you to tell us about the facts you found interesting today, were you surprised by any of the myths we explored today? Were you born on your due date? Ask your grown ups to find out!
