Year 5 Maths Challenge- Summer 1

Hi Year 5,

This half term we will be learning about our local area. Therefore, I am setting some mathematical challenges based on knowledge of our local area.

Bronze: How far away from Coventry is Stratford Upon Avon? If I went on a day trip to Stratford, how many miles will I travel that day? Explain how you know.

Silver: How tall would the three spires of Coventry be if they were added together? (Holy Trinity. Christ Church and St Michaels). Would the spires combined be taller or shorter than the Empire State Building? Explain.

Gold: What percentage of Premiership teams are from the West Midlands? Investigate.

Platinum: 1242 people died during the Coventry air raid out of a population of 200,000. What percentage is this? Explain

I am looking forward to reading your responses.

  1. Bronze:Coventry to Stratford would be 20mins to get there.
Coventry to Stratford in miles would be 30.78 kilometres.
Silver:the Christ church is 230 high,st michaels is 295 feet high and the holy trinity church is 237 feet high. Now 230+295+237=762.
So that means the Empire State Building is bigger than the three spires in Coventry. The Empire State was 1454.
