Science Week in 4 Blue – Day 1

Today we kick started our final project week of the school year โ€˜Science Weekโ€™.

We looked at how electricity works and where it comes from. First, we recapped the three main types of electrical devices, mains, battery and rechargeable and discussed what sort appliances would fit into each category. After this, we looked into more detail of where electricity comes from. Using everything we learned, we created a diagram of a coal power plant and explained what each part does.

Did you know you can make your own battery using a lemon?๐Ÿ‹

In the afternoon, we explored renewable and non-renewable energy sources. We looked at examples of these and considered the advantages and disadvantages of different energy sources.

We then focused on wind turbines and explored how wind is generated and how it moves across the world. Using plastic cups and paper plates we made our own anemometer to measure wind speed.

Where is electricity made?
Which fuels are burned to make energy?

What is renewable and non-renewable energy? Can you give examples?

  1. Zahra N.

Electricity is made from nuclear energy.
Coal and fuel because they are burned to make energy. Renewable means energy where you can replace it and it works. Non-renewable mean where you can’t replace it and it does not keep moving.

  2. Madeeha T.

1.Electricity is made from power stations.
    2.Coal and fossil
3.renewable means that you can replace it non renewable means you cant replace it

  3. Aaron G.

Electricity is made in power plants.
The fuels that are burned to make energy are coal and fossil fuel.
Renewable and non-renewable energy is energy that you can replace and you can’t replace
Examples are natural gas is non-renewable and solar power is renewable
