5R The Hobbit Day – World Book Day

We began the day by watching the introductions of The Hobbit film. It was how an ordinary Hobbit (Bilbo Baggins) went on an epic quest with Gandalf the Wizard and 13 Dwarves to reclaim the Last Dwarf Kingdom from a fearsome dragon called Smaug.

Then we created wanted posters for the dwarves from the perspectives of the Hobbits in the peaceful Shire. We used descriptive language and our newly found knowledge about the dwarves.

After this we were introduced to some Trolls. These were large, idiotic creatures that made us all laugh. We then used Drama to act as trolls and we had a lot of fun.

Once the trolls were turned into stone, we met Gollum. Gollum is a key character and we learnt he loves riddles. As a class, we wrote some riddles to read to Gollum. Hopefully we would have won the competition the cave too like Bilbo Baggins did.

Finally, we used the description from the JRR Tolkien book to develop an image of the Dragon Smaug. This lead to us drawing Smaug and annotating key vocabulary.
