Awesome Orienteering – Year 6 at Coombe

What a fabulous day Year 6 have had at Combe Country Park. Thanks to Coventry Building Society we were able to join other schools in the Aspire To network to complete an orienteering activity – with the added bonus of glorious sunshine!

We developed so many skills: map reading, compass reading, maths skills, orienteering, teamwork, problem solving AND had fun!

What was the best bit of the day for you? What skills do you feel you made the most progress in?

  1. I loved the day at coombe abbey running around trying to find coordinates. I used some skills I learnt at doly moch like being able to read a map.

  2. My favourite part of the day was when we had to find the numbers in the map and I liked playing in the playground. And I enjoyed being in Mrs Preston’s group.

  3. The best bit of the day was when we go to use our orienteering skills to map read and use compass to figure out where the numbers and letters were located. The skills I think I have made progress in were my navigation skills , map reading skills and communication skills .

  4. M6 favourite part of the day was when we finished lunch and got to play football and cricket. The skills I developed there was resilience because when we were walking my legs ached but I carried on and persevered.

  5. The best bit of the trip was when we got to play for nearly 2 hours. I played football on the big field. I made progress with my problem solving and thinking skills.

  6. The best part of yesterday trip was when we had to go and look for numbers with letters and find the code and then being first to come back to the finish line and exploring parts of the forest while finding the numbers with the letters and then we went back to eat and my fav fav part is the extra time to play FOOTBALL for 2hours plus 5 min and then we went back to school

  7. My favourite part of the day was when we where hunting for the coordinates because it was a challenge to find all of them. I feel like I have learnt to find coordinates in the forest if I ever get lost.

  8. The best bit of the day for me was when we got to see what was in Coobme abby and what activities they had such as zip lining but you had to pay . I also enjoyed the hike because we all got to work as a team and take a break from work for the day .

The skill I have made progress in is maybe my map work skills or navigating things on a map as before I wasn’t really good at these but now I feel confident with them .

  11. The best bit of the day was exploring around the park and observing the nature as that intrigued me and was also quite calming.

A skill I have improved at is my observation skill as some of the triangles were well hidden and our group even found some bonus ones!

  12. I felt as I did the most progress in is map reading as at first I thought I couldn’t read a map at all, however I learnt to map read then I started to help mrs Preston read Catherine map and luckily we found all of the letters.
