Science week in 5 Red.

We started off Summer 1 with Science week. We looked at the big question: โ€˜How do we stay fit and healthy as we get older?โ€™ To kick start this week, we learnt about the human life cycle and the stages we go through as individuals. We then had the privilege of talking to a real life scientist from America called Lindsey DefStefao, Ph.D. She answered all of our questions and ultimately explained that we should keep moving to stay fit and healthy as we get older. Before this, we conducted some research on her so we had some knowledge about her life and experiences. A fun fact about her is that she is a professor in the department of kinesiology and associate vice president for research development. Following on from this, we learnt about the different aspects of mental, physical and nutritional health. We created a poster on physical activity and the benefits of this and took part in a yoga session.

Towards the end of the week, to answer our big question, we conducted an experiment to help us find out how age affects peopleโ€™s ability to exercise. The experiment involved teachers and pupils, with age ranges from 4 years old to 50+ years, taking part. The experiment involved testing the reaction time of individuals to see how fast they could catch the ruler and how far it dropped.

To finish off our week, using our computer skills, we recorded our experiment data on to Excel. Following the steps, we were able to input this onto the spread sheet. We hope you had a great Science week.
