Explain what is the difference between reported and direct speech?
The difference between direct speech and reported speech is that for direct speech you use inverted commas but for reported speech you don’t use inverted commas.
Direct speech is when you write something that someone says using the exact words. You have to use inverted commas. An example is :
“Can we go to the park?” asked John.
Reported speech is when you write something but you do not use the exact words that they say but you do not use inverted commas. An example is :
‘The teacher told John to do his homework.’
